GRAND JUNCTION, Colo., September 18, 2026 — The Trump Extraction: An Investigative Triptych, an independently researched investigative report by Robert Wright, has been published and made freely available to readers worldwide. The report has also been transmitted to members of Congress and to a national cohort of investigative journalists, public-affairs commentators, and other media professionals whose work intersects with subjects documented in the investigation.
Rather than treating the Trump family as the larger subject, The Trump Extraction uses three generations of the family as a case study through which to examine a broader question: how vulnerabilities in public institutions and government oversight can create opportunities for private benefit, and how those vulnerabilities may persist, change, or compound over time.
The report is organized as a triptych. Panel I examines Friedrich Trump and extraction on the American frontier. Panel II examines Fred Trump and extraction through government programs and institutions. Panel III examines Donald Trump and what the report describes as extraction through interconnected institutions, with its most extensive documentary investigation focused on Freedom 250 and related federal activity.
Panel III reconstructs a record involving federal spending, appropriations, procurement and contracting, the Department of the Interior and National Park Service, administrative capacity and delegated authority, conflicts of interest, and the reprioritization or displacement of previously scheduled federal work.
The investigation draws upon executive orders, appropriations law and congressional records, federal contracts and procurement data, agency documents, public financial records, congressional correspondence, government ethics and personnel records, and contemporaneous reporting. The report’s stated methodology is deliberately restrictive: where the documentary record does not establish a proposition, the report does not present that proposition as fact.
“The Trump family is the triptych—the case study,” Wright said. “The greater story is the vulnerability of institutions themselves. When accountability leaves a gap, someone will exploit it. Today, that exploitation has been weaponized.”
That distinction led Wright to develop Gapportunity™, a companion concept describing an exploitable institutional accountability gap: the interval between institutional safeguards as intended and those safeguards as they operate in practice. A companion essay, Gapportunity: The Accountability Gap in The Trump Extraction, has subsequently been published to develop the concept beyond the Trump case study.
